Michael Devlin One of America's most notorious child kidnappers stabbed by another prison inmate with a knife named for his victim - 20th May 2011

One of America's most notorious child kidnappers was stabbed by another prison inmate with knives named after his two young victims.

Evil Michael Devlin is recovering from his injuries after being attacked at a prison in Missouri.

He was repeatedly stabbed by Troy Fenton, who called his two home made knives 'Shawn' and 'Ben' - the names of two boys kidnapped by Devlin.

The restaurant manager made international headlines in 2007 after a boy who went missing when he was 11 years old was found living with him.

Devlin had snatched Shawn Hornbeck as he cycled to a friend's house and kept him prisoner at his flat in the town of Kirkwood, Missouri.

The young boy was brainwashed by Devlin into believing his parents were dead and was repeatedly sexually abused by his abductor.

His parents never gave up hope of finding their son and had posted fliers in Kirkwood - unaware he was living about 60 miles from their own home.

Police found Hornbeck while they were looking for another missing boy, Ben Ownby, who had disappeared on his way home from school.

The 13-year-old was found with Devlin and Hornbeck then told police he had been kidnapped in 2002. Read More

Bill Carney a Paedophile priest expelled from Catholic Church found living yards from children’s play area - 20th May 2011

A paedophile priest expelled from the Catholic Church over his vile sex crimes has been found living just yards from a children's play area.

Bill Carney was described as a 'serial sex abuser of children' after being named in the Murphy Report into clerical abuse in Ireland. The Irishman - convicted of indecent assault and linked to 32 other complaints - became one of the most notorious cases in the church's history.

Now, worried parents have spoken out after Carney was found living 100 yards away from a park in a pretty Cotswolds town.

They expressed serious concerns after his back gate was found to lead straight onto the children's area.

One father-of-two from Northleach, Gloucester, who did not want to be named, said: 'I think it is important people know he is living here.

'There's a lot of whispering, but someone needs to speak up.

'This is the first summer I would have allowed my two children to walk out to the play area on their own - but now I can't.'

Carney was convicted of two counts of indecent assault in 1983. In 1992 he was defrocked after church authorities convicted him of child sex abuse.

The Murphy Report, which investigated paedophilia in the Catholic Church and was published in November 2009, pinpointed Carney as one of the worst perpetrators. Read More

May 21st Doomsday Cult worth $72 million, and collected $20 million in donations in 2009 alone -- still open for business despite Judgement Day

By now, you've probably heard of the religious group that's predicting the end of the world starts this weekend.

Harold Camping and his devoted followers claim a massive earthquake will mark the second coming of Jesus, or so-called Judgment Day on Saturday, May 21, ushering in a five month period of catastrophes before the world comes to a complete end in October.

At the center of it all, Camping's organization, Family Radio, is perfectly happy to take your money -- and in fact, received $80 million in contributions between 2005 and 2009. Camping founded Family Radio, a nonprofit Christian radio network based in Oakland, Calif. with about 65 stations across the country, in 1958.

But not even all of his own employees are convinced that the world is ending on Saturday.

In fact, many still plan on showing up at work on Monday.

"I don't believe in any of this stuff that's going on, and I plan on being here next week," a receptionist at their Oakland headquarters told CNNMoney.

A program producer in Illinois told us, "We're going to continue doing what we're doing."

According to their most recent IRS filings, Family Radio is almost entirely funded by donations, and brought in $18 million in contributions in 2009 alone. (read more)

Father and daughter in sexual relationship go on American TV -- (inches for the "society's collapse" tag)

It was too disturbed even for Jerry Springer.

So when the show rejected an 18-year-old girl who was having a sexual relationship with her father, there was only one person they could turn to - Steve Wilkos.

Recently the show aired a two-part story about a father - Morgan - and his biological daughter Britney, who reconnected through Myspace when she was 16 and started to have a relationship.

Britney explained to Steve Wilkos: 'I was 16 when I looked for him on Myspace. My family members had kept us apart and I hadn't seen him since I was seven so I looked him up.

'On my page I had pictures of my boobs and bum on there and when he saw it he said, "My little baby girl should not be doing that". But then he put a smiley face.

'When I saw that I thought he had sexual feelings for me.'

Wilkos asked her if she did not think that he was taking advantage of her and she said: 'No, because I wanted it too. I see a future with him. I have a really good feeling about us and I know it will work out.'

When her heavily-tattooed father Morgan came on, he was booed by the audience, but it did not stop him from greeting his girlfriend and daughter with a long, passionate French kiss, one in which Wilkos had to stop before it got too far.

He told Morgan that he 'should probably go and see a doctor and get some therapy, preying on your daughter like that'.

He replied: 'I'm not preying on her, yes I'm sleeping with her but it's not like I'm abusing her or something.' (read more)

Michael Crump attacks 93 year old women for $4, then attacks mother with infant in stroller for dessert

A 48-year-old Philadelphia man has pleaded guilty to two despicable robberies in Center City: an attack on a 93-year-old woman in the elevator of her apartment building, and another attack on a young mother walking her infant in a stroller.

Both victims were in court Wednesday as defendant Michael Crump admitted to the crimes.

There was an audible gasp from spectators in the courtroom as the prosecutor described how Crump had knocked the elderly victim to the ground and then kicked her before fleeing from the elevator.

Crump got four dollars from the woman, but not without a fight.

“You are supposed to, if you are being attacked, you’re supposed to hand over your valuables and not make a fuss about it,” the feisty elderly victim told the judge. “But my feeling is, damn it, I worked all my life for this money and you are not going to get it. It was only four bucks, let’s be brutally honest about it. The whole robbery was only four dollars. But at the same time it’s my money and I worked for it.” (read more)

Ted J. Kaczynski the Unabomber is now being investigated by FBI for 1982 Tylenol poisoning that killed seven - 19th May 2011

Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski is being investigated by the FBI for the 1982 Tylenol poisonings that killed seven people in Chicago.

The FBI said they were making a re-examination of the case due to advancements in forensics and that Kaczynski was among 'numerous individuals' they were obtaining voluntary DNA samples from.

In a letter to the court, Kaczynski - once a UC Berkely professor - said that his DNA was being sought to compare with those connected with the 1982 crime, in which someone put potassium cyanide in Tylenol capsules.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the 69-year-old, who is serving a life sentence at a 'supermax' prison in Florence, Colorado, wrote the letter in order to stop the sale of his possessions at auction, saying they would provide evidence that he is not connected to the Tylenol killings.

He said that he had 'never even possessed any potassium cyanide' and claims that prison officials in Colorado visited him three weeks ago with the FBI's request.

James Lewis, who served a 13-year sentence for extortion, was the prime suspect in the case after sending the pharmaceutical company letters demanding $1million for the killings to stop. He has never been charged with murder. Read More

Shantaniqua Scott Caught on Hospital Surveillance 'trying to suffocate her baby so she could go back to her carefree pre-baby days' - 20th May 2011

This is the shocking moment a teenage mother attempts to smother her baby in a hospital.

Hidden video cameras caught 18-year-old Shantaniqua Scott place a blanket over her four-month-old son's mouth.

Moments later she clamps her hand over his face and mouth as the newborn baby kicks and struggles for life as his air supply is cut off.

By the time the teenage single mother removes her hand her son Raymond's body appears limp.

Seconds later, with alarms going off indicating the baby had stopped breathing, doctors and nurses rush in to resuscitate him.

The shocking footage was played to a shocked courtroom in Texas where Scott is on trial for attempting to kill her newborn son.

Jurors sat in rapt silence as the video tape recorded at the Cook Children's Medical Centre in July 2010 was played in a Fort Worth courtroom.

They had heard how Scott's son had been taken into hospital after he was reported to have suddenly stopped breathing.

Doctors who examined him at first thought he suffered from severe acid reflux.

He underwent surgery to correct the condition - when acid from the stomach backs up into the oesophagus - and was released from hospital.

But two days later he was back in the emergency unit after he mysteriously stopped breathing.

Staff suspected he was the victim of abuse and set up a hidden camera on the ward where the baby was recovering. Read More

Dorsey Henderson, 84-year-old man, beaten by police officer after calling 911 for help

An Alabama police officer allegedly hospitalized an elderly man who called 911 to report an accident across the street from his house while his wife watched the entire beating from her wheelchair.

The Courthouse News Service reported that 84-year-old Dorsey Henderson of Fairhope, Alabama called 911 after investigating the car accident and discovering that the driver of the vehicle was severely intoxicated.

Henderson told the driver of the car he was under citizens arrest and needed to wait near his car until police arrived.

When Officer Trent Scott arrived on the scene, Henderson attempted to inform him of the driver's belligerent behavior and that the driver had been placed under citizens arrest. The officer allegedly told Henderson there was "no such thing as citizen's arrest in Alabama," and to "get out of the way, old man."

After Henderson tried to explain that he was only trying to help, Officer Scott placed him in an arm bar and slammed him face first into the ground, breaking his nose and eyeglasses. Henderson's wife, Dorris, watched from a wheelchair at the front window of her house, telling a 911 dispatcher that the officer was "beating the hell out of my husband."

At no point did Scott place Henderson under arrest or charge him with any crime, but kept Henderson handcuffed in the backseat of his police cruiser.

Roughly ten minutes later, Scott sent an ambulance that had arrived away, telling the paramedics that the elderly man "doesn't need an ambulance."

A superior office who later arrived on the scene ordered the ambulance to return and Henderson was taken to the hospital, where he doctors said he suffered a broken nose, multiple contusions and a torn rotator cuff.

As of May 16, 2011, Scott was still employed by the Fairhope Police Department. (Source)

Marie Lauradin, NYC mom, sets baby daughter on fire in voodoo ritual

Prosecutors say a New York City woman admitted setting fire to her young daughter during a voodoo ritual by pouring flammable liquid on the girl's head and igniting it, scarring her body.

Marie Lauradin (lah-hahr-DAHN') pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree assault by pouring the liquid on her then-6-year-old daughter at their Queens home in 2009.

Prosecutors say Lauradin poured the accelerant on her daughter's head and in a circle on the floor as part of a voodoo practice involving a loa, or spirit.

Prosecutors say the judge indicated he would sentence her to 17 years in prison. She also faces possible deportation back to her native Haiti.

Defense attorney Jeff Cohen says his client admitted that her actions were reckless, but he would not comment on her motives. (read more)

Devious Malcolm Webster, murdered first wife then tried to kill his second five years later in staged car crashes for £1m insurance money - 19th May

A 'womanising' qualified male nurse staged car crashes to murder his first wife and try to kill his second -as part of a plot to pocket £1 million in insurance payouts.

Devious Malcolm Webster, 52, murdered Claire Morris, 32, in a car crash in 1994 and then fraudulently claimed more than £200,000 from policies following her death.

He then tried to kill his second wife Felicity Drumm, 50, in New Zealand in February 1999 in a bid to claim more than £750,000.

He also tried to fleece several women out of their estates.

Webster, from Guildford in Surrey, killed his first wife when he drugged her, staged a car crash and then torched the car she was in.

At the crash scene, in Aberdeenshire in May 1994, Webster coldly told people who stopped to help that no one was inside the burning Daihatsu 4x4 vehicle.

He cashed in the insurance policy and splashed out on a Range Rover and yacht following her death.

Webster, who went on trial on February 1, initially told police in 1994 that he swerved to avoid a motorcyclist and crashed.

But after the investigation into Ms Morris's death was re-opened in 2008, forensic tests on a tissue sample from her liver revealed she had been given a sedative.

Experts also said the crash would have been at low speed as Ms Morris's body had not moved in her seat.

Five years later Webster tried to kill his second wife, Felicity Drumm, in New Zealand. He thought it would lead to a £750,000 insurance payout. Read More

Deyan Valentinov Deyanovho Who beheaded British grandmother was released from mental health unit in UK just months before killing - 19th May 2011

The man who beheaded a British grandmother was released from a mental health hospital in the UK after he was sectioned last summer.

Deyan Deyanov was in Britain visiting relatives when he was admitted to the Glan Clwyd Hospital's Ablett Psychiatric Unit in North Wales.

The Bulgarian was receiving treatment after concerned relatives told authorities about his drug-taking and deteriorating behaviour.

But he was released in October last year after being monitored constantly.

News of his release came as two of his ex-girlfriends spoke about how they had feared for their lives and a security guard said he had been smashed in the face by Deyanov.

Labour MP Steve McCabe told the Sun newspaper: 'There must be an urgent inquiry to find how someone in psychiatric care can be released, travel abroad and carry out such a crime.'

One of his Deyanov's ex-girlfriends, 22-year-old Rachel Sharpe, from Canterbury, said: 'He told me he wanted to kill someone to see what it would be like, to cut someone up.

'He thought he was the Messiah. I told him he wasn't God and he was so angry, I thought he was going to kill me.' Read More

Ben Heney, The Heartless thief that robbed a woman as she lay dying after 80ft fall from multi-storey car park - 19th May 2011

A sick thief who robbed a young woman as she lay dying in the street after plunging 80 feet from the top of a multi storey car was behind bars tonight.

Ben Heney, 23, sneaked up to the 22-year-old victim and grabbed her mobile phone after he spotted her as she lay in the road with fatal multiple injuries.

As she was rushed to hospital, Heney sold the Samsung phone on the black market for just £20.

The woman, who has not been named, later died from her injuries.

Today, just 24 hours after the callous raid, Heney, of Fulton Court, Hulme, Manchester, admitted theft and was jailed for 12 weeks.

Manchester magistrates were told the incident occurred at 12.45am on Wednesday May 18 after the woman fell from the car park at the back of Chorlton Street coach station in Manchester city centre.

Police were called to the scene but before they arrived Heney went up to the woman as she was being helped by another member of the public. He grabbed the phone but was spotted by CCTV operators and his description was circulated to police.

He was arrested in the same area at about 4pm that day. The phone, with a dark purple touch screen, has not been recovered. Police are now trying to find the device so the woman's family can call her friends to tell them about the tragedy.

The woman's death is not being treated as suspicious and the case has been passed onto a coroner. Read More

Julianne McCrery: 'He's my son... and I killed him': Mother's astonishing confession about mystery boy, six, whose body was found along dirt road

A mother has reportedly admitted killing her son after the dead boy’s body was found on a dirt road.

Julianne McCrery, of Irving, Texas, allegedly told a female trooper: ‘I killed my son. I want to kill myself’ - after six-year-old Camden Pierce Hughes was found dead in Maine.

She is believed to have told police she accidentally gave him too much cough syrup, reported ABC. A telephone tip led authorities to the woman at a highway rest stop in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

McCrery was taken to hospital for a medical evaluation and she is being questioned by authorities. A source said she was in a vehicle reading a Bible when arrested. She will be arraigned on Thursday.

She was charged with second-degree murder and being a fugitive from justice, reported the Boston Globe. Her son's body was found in Maine near the state line with New Hampshire.

But she was charged in New Hampshire because police believe the boy died in Hampton, where a state police command post was set up outside a motel on Wednesday.

Preliminary autopsy findings showed that the cause of Camden's death was suffocation and the manner of death was homicide. The homicide remains under investigation. Read More

Kerry Campbell, 'obsessed' with reality TV and may have lied about giving daughter, 'Britney ' BOTOX injections in a bid to find fame - 19th May 2011

A mother who admitted on national television that she gave her eight-year-old daughter Botox injections may have been lying in a desperate attempt to get publicity.

Kerry Campbell caused outrage when she went on the Good Morning America show and said she injected her young daughter to give her an edge in pageant competitions.

San Francisco authorities launched an investigation after receiving scores of complaints and Child Protective Services.

As a result, Britney was removed from Kerry's house by social workers over the weekend.

One insider said: 'It's beginning to look like Kerry's claims about giving her daughter Botox injections looks like a hoax, and that Kerry is making the entire thing up for publicity.

'Kerry is obsessed with reality television, and wants to become famous.

'Child Protective Services are conducting an investigation about the Botox claims.

'But at this point, there is absolutely no evidence that Kerry injected Britney with Botox.'

Miss Campbell said she was injecting Britney with the anti-wrinkle treatment to help with her daughter's pageant career.

The informant said: 'Investigators and social workers have been unable to prove that Britney has ever been in any beauty pageants.

'Britney is now being cared for by relatives, and is doing well.'

If Kerry made up the entire story, 'she will be in some serious trouble as far as custody goes of her daughter, Britney,' the insider added.

'If she didn't actually inject Britney with Botox, that is going to open another element to the investigation.

'If the mother is so obsessed with becoming famous, and putting her daughter out there like that, her motives and intentions are going to be very closely examined.

The insider said authorities are looking into the possibility that Kerry doesn't live in San Francisco, but in Southern California and goes by a different name, and could have another daughter. Read More

Deyan Valentinov Deyanov - 'He tried to kill me too': Tenerife killer smashed a rock into the face of Security Guard FOUR MONTHS AGO - 18th May 2011

A man has claimed that the Predator obsessed killer who beheaded a grandmother in Tenerife tried to kill him as well.

Bulgarian Deyan Deyanov is said to have hit security guard Fermin Suarez Perez, 45, over the head with a rock, knocking out some of his teeth.

Police said Deyanov was still on bail following his arrest over the attack on January 4 and had actually been arrested three times since then.

'I've no doubt he meant to kill me,' Mr Perez told the Daily Mirror. 'I said, "What are you doing you madman". He then crouched own on all fours like an animal and ran off.'

Deyanov, 28, is in custody following the beheading of British grandmother Jennifer Mills-Westley, 60, who he followed before stabbing her 14 times and decapitating her in a Chinese supermarket on Friday.

'He smoked a lot of cannabis, heroin and crack cocaine,' Mr Perez continued. 'He was a time bomb waiting to go off.

'He used to follow women, trying to pick them up. Jennifer used to stroll along the promenade and I'm sure he would have seen her.'

Two weeks after the attack on Mr Perez, Deyanov was arrested for punching a dog walker and then two months later he smashed a window. He was due in court but failed to turn up and an arrest warrant was issued three days before he went on to kill Mrs Mills-Westley.

Yesterday it was revealed that he was obsessed with the film Predator and had alien symbols from the movie tattooed on his forearLinkm.

He would rave about the movie in which aliens stalk their victims for sport, telling friends that he enjoyed the way the aliens tracked down their prey and removed their heads.

The details of his obsession come after it emerged that Deyanov, the son of a millionaire, turned to drugs and drifted across Europe. Read More

Larry DeWayne Hall, a Convicted Child Kidnappe has confessed to Kidnap and Murder dating back to 1992, where did he bury Laurie Depies? -18th May 2011

A convicted child kidnapper has admitted he was responsible for the disappearance of a 20-year-old woman in 1992, police revealed today.

Larry DeWayne Hall has confessed he snatched Laurie Depies from the street in the town of Menasha, Wisconsin, murdered her and then hid her body.

The 48-year-old, already serving a life sentence kidnapping a 15-year-old girl in 1993, was interviewed in prison late last year.

Detectives are now searching for Miss Depies's body.

Police Chief Rod McCants said: 'There is no arrest, but we will continue as of today, following up on information he provided us to hopefully corroborate what he's telling us.

'Some of the details that Mr Hall was able to provide, I personally feel this is probably, hopefully putting us in the right direction now; a major break in the case.'

He refused to confirm the locations of the search but said that there were no physical evidence linking Hall to Miss Depies

'I hate to put time limits on investigations, but I'd like to think within three or six months we'll have additional information either corroborating his statement or eliminating him as a person of interest,' he added.

Police Lt. Mike Krueger said. 'I think from what Larry told us, out of all the other people we've interviewed over the years in this investigation, Larry seemed most credible with the information that he provided.'

'We can solve it with the crime lab, if we do ever come up with an exact location,' he said.

'(Lab investigators) felt pretty confident we would find some remains, whether it be bone fragments or something else.' Read More

Daniel Lee Bedford: 'I love you!': Last words he said to his daughter as he is executed for double murder he doesn't remember - 17th May 2011

A double murderer shouted out 'I love you' to his daughter seconds before he was executed for a crime he says he can't remember committing.

Ohio man Daniel Lee Bedford, 63, confessed to shooting ex-girlfriend Gwen Toepfert, then 25, and John Smith, then 27, in 1984, but in later years claimed he couldn't recall the incident.

Bedford, wearing glasses and a short grey beard, declined to give a formal final statement but yelled 'I love you' to his adult daughter, Michelle Connor, who was in the witness room.

She shouted back, 'I love you, Daddy' after he had climbed onto a gurney.

He also called out to witness Kristi Schulenberg, a friend and pen pal he had kept in touch with since the mid-1990s.

She said she loved him, too.

'God bless you,' he said as the injection began. His mouth moved slightly and his chest appeared to rise and fall several times before he became still.

Bedford's attorneys had tried to block the lethal injection at the last minute arguing that the inmate had dementia and a mild mental disability.

They also said he was denied legal proceedings to which he was entitled.

But the U.S. Supreme Court refused the defence's request to block the execution early this morning.

Prison staff had appeared to have some difficulty inserting the IVs into one of Bedford's arm, prompting an attorney witnessing the execution to call a colleague with concerns about how many times Bedford's arm had been poked.

She also shouted to Bedford through the glass viewing window and asked if there were problems.

He replied that he'd been poked several times.

Bedford is the fourth Ohio inmate put to death this year. Read More

David Norris and Gary Dobson will Face Trial over the Murder of Stephen Lawrence 18 Years ago - 18th May 2011

(Image) David Norris (L) and Gary Dobson (R)

Two men are to face trial for the murder of London teenager Stephen Lawrence 18 years ago.

Gary Dobson and David Norris have been charged with killing the 18-year-old at a bus stop in Eltham in 1993.

Dobson, 35, and 34-year-old Norris were arrested last September but the development could not be reported until today for legal reasons.

In 1996 Dobson, Luke Knight and Neil Acourt were tried for murder in a private prosecution brought by Mr Lawrence's parents at the Old Bailey.

But the trial judge ruled that purported identification evidence was not admissible and the case collapsed.

The jury was directed to acquit the defendants and not guilty verdicts were entered.

Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge, sitting at the Court of Appeal in London with Mrs Justice Rafferty and Mr Justice Holroyde, said new scientific evidence has come to light that justifies the quashing of Dobson's original acquittal.

The retrial of Dobson is possible because the rules on double jeopardy have changed - they previously stated a person could not be tried for the same offence twice.

Lord Judge said no application to quash the acquittals of Neil Acourt and Luke Knight was before the court "but another suspect, who was not a defendant at the earlier trial, David Norris, was arrested in September 2010 and charged with murder". Read More

Erica Mendoza and Ivan Mendoza accused of almost beating son to death claim injuries were caused by a 'ghost' in their home - 18th May 2011

A couple accused of almost beating their son to death claimed his catalogue of injuries were caused by a 'ghost' in their home.

The pair insisted an evil spirit was responsible for the multiple bruises on the boy's body that left him clinging to life and needing an emergency blood transfusion.

Doctors were able to save the two-year-old boy after he was rushed to a hospital emergency room covered in bruises and suffering from internal injuries, including a non-functioning kidney.

But when police interviewed the boy's mother, Erica Mendoza, and her boyfriend, Ivan Martinez, they claimed 'spirits' in their Houston home were to blame for the injuries.

An arrest report revealed that Mendoza, 21, said their apartment in Houston, Texas, was haunted and that the injuries suffered by the boy were caused by the ghost tossing him around.

Martinez, 21, also insisted an evil spirit inhabiting their home was to blame for the boy's near-death condition.

Mendoza also tried to claim her other child, aged four, was responsible for the multiple bruises on her son's body from 'rough play'.

But after failing a lie detector polygraph test, Martinez admitted to repeatedly punching the toddler after the child had thrown his breakfast on the floor.

Mendoza also admitted to noticing several bruises on the child’s body, but failing to seek medical care for him.

Doctors who examined the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, found his body covered in bruises from head to toe. Read More
