Vincent Tabak Pleads Guilty To Killing Joanna Yeates - 5th May 2011

Vincent Tabak has admitted the manslaughter of Joanna Yeates but prosecutors say he will still face trial for her murder.

The Dutch engineer, 33, appeared via videolink from prison for the hearing at the Old Bailey.

As Miss Yeates' parents David and Theresa watched in the court, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

But it was rejected by the Crown Prosecution Service, meaning he will still go on trial for murder in the autumn.

Tabak, wearing a dark suit and tie and glasses, sat at a desk during the hearing. He occasionally made notes and sipped from a cup.

He spoke to confirm his name and to say he was content for proceedings to continue in English without an interpreter before entering his pleas.

Miss Yeates, 25, who lived in Clifton, Bristol, disappeared on December 17 after going for Christmas drinks with colleagues.

Her frozen body was found by a couple walking their dogs on Christmas morning dumped on a verge in a lane in Failand, north Somerset.

The 25-year-old had been strangled. Police said there was no evidence she was sexually assaulted.

Tabak, who was arrested and charged in January, lived with his girlfriend Tanja Morson in a flat next door to Miss Yeates. Read More
