Newt Gingrich To Bid For Obama's Job and the list of opponents continue to grow as America enters into greater unrest is to launch a bid to become the Republicans' candidate for the 2012 presidential election, his spokesman has confirmed. The former speaker for the US House of Representatives is set to formally announce his candidacy on Twitter and Facebook before speaking at a Republican Party gathering in his home state of Georgia on Friday.
To kick-off his campaign, Mr Gingrich will give an interview to television station Fox News on Wednesday, followed by a speech on Saturday at Eureka College in Illinois, where Ronald Regan studied.
"We're all in," said his spokesman Rick Tyler.
Mr Gingrich led the "Republican revolution" during the 1994 midterm elections, which came up with a series of promises, dubbed the "Contract with America".
The pledge led to the Republican Party gaining control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate while Democrat Bill Clinton was still president.
However, Mr Gingrich later resigned in 1998 after the Republicans failed to make big gains in the congressional elections, despite the sex scandal engulfing Mr Clinton at the time.
The 67-year-old has remained an influential Republican voice, even working as a paid analyst for Fox News, many believe his presidential bid will be unsuccessful. Read More
