Worker jumps to his death from world's tallest building after 'being refused time off' - 11th May 2011

A man has become the first person to commit suicide from the world's tallest tower in Dubai.

The man, believed to be an employee in his 30s who worked at a company in the Burj Khalifa, apparently jumped from the 147th floor of the tower earlier today.

He was reported to have asked for time off but had been refused shortly before he fell from the building.

n a statement, Dubai police said: 'The police operations room received a call about a suicide at the Burj Khalifa and investigation teams were immediately dispatched.'

The man struck metal barriers along the tower before landing on a terrace on the 108th floor.

The Burj Khalifa is 2,716ft tall and has more than 160 floors. It has been used by base jumpers in the past to carry out jumps. Read More
