Vatican scientists have sparked a climate change row after backing a discredited UN report that claimed ice on the Himalays could melt by 2035.The Pontifical Academy of Science, which report directly to the Pope, said glaciers were evaporating and called for urgent action to stem damage to the environment.
But lead author, Rajendra Pachauri, based it upon his own 2007 UN climate panel report, which he later admitted had ‘poorly substantiated estimates’ following an international furore.
