Tasered: The moment suspected gunman brought to his knees by a 50,000 volt dart - 9th May 2011

Screaming with pain as he collapses on the ground, a suspected gunman with two hostages is Tasered by police at the end of a two-day siege.

The shaven-headed man, who emerged from a house dressed only in shorts, was incapacitated as 50,000 volts coursed through his body. The dart can be seen sticking from his back.

Officers decided to use the Taser after he shouted at them and ignored demands to lie down at the end of a tense 32-hour stand-off. Moments earlier, another man and a woman had walked out of the terraced property in New Costessey, Norwich.

He was shot in the back with a Taser dart after he ignored police instructions to get on the ground.

It was feared that he was holding another man and woman hostage in the terraced house.

The drama began just before 9am on Friday when a member of the public dialled 999 to report a man with a handgun.

A day and a half later the stand-off ended when a woman holding a puppy left the house at 5.30pm last night followed by a man.

They were led away by police and the alleged gunman emerged moments later. Police confirmed that the man was 'tasered to effect a safe and secure arrest.'

The man was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and the other man and woman were arrested on suspicion of wasting police time. All three, said to be in their 40s, were today being questioned by police. Read More
